Derek Kelly, Missing From Canada Since 2008 New Year’s Eve

Derek Kelly went missing in the Cariboo on New Year’s Eve, and hasn’t been seen or heard from since. Leanne Kelly said her 31-year-old brother Derek, who goes by the name “D,” had been working in Port Hardy on construction when he made the trip to the Cariboo Dec. 30 with a new girlfriend and some friends and acquaintances. Leanne said there were at least four and perhaps as many as eight in the party. Those friends returned to the Lower Mainland without Derek and didn’t notify the authorities or his family that he was missing. On Jan. 16, the family in Langley reported him missing to the RCMP; the detachment’s serious crime unit has conducted an extensive investigation but has not been able to locate him.

A plea from the Kelly Family, please help them to find their Son The Kelly Family is looking for Derek Kelly. Also known as “D”. He was last seen on New Years Eve /New Years Eve Day. He was in the area of BRIDGE LAKE, BC. Bridge Lake being just off Highway 24 about 1 ½ hours from Kamloops, BC. He is a white male, 32 years old, 5”11, 170 lbs with an athletic build. He has blue eyes and short brown hair. He has several Celtic tribal tattooes on his shoulders around to the middle of his back, a band with a cross on his left bicep and “Irish Pride” on his right forearm. He also was wearing his gold chain with his large gold cross. He was wearing a black hoody with silver/grey markings, jeans and black adidas runners. He was carrying a small red and black Sherwood hockey bag. We are pleading that if anyone may have seen something or perhaps anything that may have looked out of place on New Years Eve / New Years Day in the area of Bridge Lake.

Update August 3, 2009:  Today is Derek’s birthday and the following is from the family’s Facebook Group:

Hello Everyone,

It’s just a few hours away from August 3rd here in BC and that is Derek’s birthday.

Derek would have turned 33 years young; however Derek is still a ‘Missing Person’ and is not here to allow us to share in his birthday celebration together.

Don’t get me wrong, tomorrow I WILL BE CELEBRATING my brothers birthday because he’s my D and he deserves a celebration and he’s going to get it, as he knows I don’t ever forget !!

Tomorrow some balloons (yeppers ,in Kelly green) will be sent up to heaven with little love you notes written on them in black sharpie ink. Kisses will be attached too. He will get our messages and birthday wishes. He will most definitely have his cheeky smirk on his face and his baby blues will be bright and happy for he knows he is missed.

Now, how many times here in the last few minutes have I typed some words only to backspace and delete them ? What can I say that I haven’t already expressed to you in words if you have been here since day one of the Facebook group.

It’s going to be 1 year, 7 months and 3 days tomorrow.

For me, he/she/they who killed my brother (although we do not have a body) they will most likely get up in the morning and put two feet on the ground and feel freedom as they have all this time. They will take in some fresh air and enjoy the day …. he/she/they don’t give a shit about what they did to Derek. They have not been held accountable, and well those who know and say they don’t want to get involved, they don’t want to have to deal with him/her/them if they run into him/her/them … they are in my prayers for they could give my family the gift of all gifts, and make my wish for D’s birthday come true. Yes, it’s YOU, you are reading this and have heard either right from one of them, or just second hand, and yes pretty much you are sitting holding the wrapped gift box of answers. No one else is coming to this party, it’s up to YOU to make the call. I will give you my word that Cpl Lorne Wood is a stand up man and investigator, you can call him direct and he will keep your confidence. So put the big bow on the gift and make the call, it’s been too long but it’s never too late.

I celebrated D’s birthday with some of you over the years and I do hope that tomorrow you are going to raise a glass (some of you I’m happy to say are clean and sober and you still lift your glass of what your sober/clean bodies drink – be proud of yourself, and if you have slipped, it’s time to get back up and dust off and get back at’er)

I remember all our birthdays, I remember those homemade cake pans mom made our cakes in,and those cakes she just made on her creative own, wow us 4 kids were blessed. We each had special days and truly did celebrate our lives. Tonight as I type this I don’t mind my salty tears running down my face because they’re not sad, they’re for the memory tonight of your WWF wrestling ring cake, with the Hulk and your hand up showing off your muscles (all of your skinny little child self) …. you rocked it then and you rock it now too.

I miss you Derek. God knows how much I miss you. God knows how much I’d love to give mom & dad the answers. God knows how much I’d like to have your body so you could come home to rest.
