Why are we so like to pat ourselves on the back because we have "sex offender registries?" In the first place, we need to distinguish between predators; rapists, molesters and killers, and those who have just fallen afoul of their teen girlfriend's parents.

A friend of mine in IN grew suspicious of a neighbour when he offered her grandsons way too much money to mow his yard. She looked him up in the registry and found NOTHING. She had a friend on the local police force, and he found that the neighbour WAS on the list, UNDER A DIFFERENT NAME! So, they just use a different name, and go on like nothing has happened. I'll bet there are a bunch of them like that, and I know there are a lot more that just don't register, and drop out of sight.

The registry is obviously a Good Thing, but it's just a start.

Penalties need to be enforced. NO PROBATION! NO PAROLE! Maximum sentences. And, IMO, penalties need to be increased.

In some places, we lock up muggers for longer than we lock up child rapists! I guess that tells us what our lawmakers think is more important, doesn't it?

My daughter looked up the registry when she bought her house, and found one guy who got two years probation for aggravated sexual assault on a 2-year-old!

I could chew nails and spit rust!

Why isn't the husband considered a suspect? He refuses to talk to police. If he's innocent, he has nothing to hide. Further, just how hard have the police tried to question her husband. Why is he able to evade the law so easily?

I'm not sure about the decision to kill. Sometimes its impulsive, more often it seems to be planned. We can't really say that Scott Petersons secretive purchase of a boat indicates a plan for murder but it well may be that is what happened.

Is divorce an option when there is the belief that child support will be an anchor detracting from his future lifestyle. Most criminals think they will be able to get away with a crime. The cops were on to that guy right from the start. Even if one of the early interrogators hadn't been a fisherman, his story simply was outrageous. A baby due, holidays approaching, holiday dinner scheduled... and he goes fishing nearly a hundred miles away?

Yes, he chose murder. And he thought he would get away with it. His family seems to have closed ranks with him, but few people really doubt his guilt. I wonder if it seems so irrational to us, whether he really thinks it was a wise decision or not.

I've just learned of this case.
One site mentioned several young muscular males with tatoos have gone missing, but I doubt anyone is really targetting tatooed males, although you might want to see if there were any common themes to the tatoos.

Obviously, I think it was a set up to get him off in the middle of nowhere with a new girlfriend on New Years Eve. Even if it was not pre-meditated if after whatever happened they just returned home and kept silent its clearly to protect themselves from something serious rather than minor such as someone going for a hike and getting lost.

Enemies? Prior associations? Does the girlfriend have any other victims in her wake? Any hobbies in common with those in the group?

Good luck bring the culprits to justice.

My opinion is, contrary to what some want to believe, that Scott, probably because of being the golden boy, was a narcissist to the max. He doesn't know how to love anyone or anything but himself. He is a master manipulator and that's why he was able to be something different than everyone around him was able to see. I don't think, nor have I seen or read, that he physically abused Laci. Whether he loved her or not is questionable, she provided something that he needed and wanted in his life at the time.

Narcissists are always looking for a host, like a hunter and it's prey, something that they want and need and expect to be their own. It may serve them for years, or it may not, but when they are done they leave nothing but chaos behind them.

Not having the capacity to feel for others, his own son was only an object to him, something he obviously did not want, and, therefore, he plotted and planned the perfect crime. (or so he thought) Remember, he was seeing Amber, he bought the boat, he researched the tides in the bay, and he bought and made concrete weights weeks before he murdered Laci and his son.

It's so hard for us to think that there are really evil people like this in the world, but if you have been a "host" for a narcissist it's clear to see. Kimmy, Amy Matthews has a wonderful blog about sociopaths and narcissists that is full of information about this untreatable condition. Personally, I'm still working at steering clear of one who has dominated my life for over ten years! They have a way of worming their way in and out of your life, isolating you, and I guess that could be a form of abuse! I can't answer the phone when he calls or I'm doomed again! LOL

All of what I've said is my own opinion from following the case and reading, it certainly isn't a professional opinion nor is it gospel!
